Giving Tree for CAPS High SchoolA white tree decorated with all sorts of yellow things- why? Because it’s the focus of our Christmas Giving project. Your Missions & Outreach Ministry Team has chosen to collect YELLOW TREATS for the teachers at CAPS High School. Any treat that is yellow or has yellow packaging is welcome. We want to collect a large box of “sunshine” to bring to the 76 teachers plus staff to show them they are loved and cared for! Yellow treats can be dropped off under the tree anytime through the end of the year.
In January we delivered a “box of sunshine” to encourage the staff there with a little bit of joy and good treats. The Good Samaritan Fund of CUMC exists to help those in our community that have fallen on hard times. The fund exists to help anyone who comes to the Church in need.
By giving to the Good Samaritan Fund, we join with Christ in helping all of our neighbors. All requests for help are reviewed by the pastor and given with love and offers of community and support. It is through generous donations to this fund that we are able to support the vital mission of our church to be a Community Called to Live, Love, and Serve! |
Compassion International
For several years now, CUMC, through our monthly Missions Giving, has sponsored a young girl, Leslie Hernandez, from the Dominican Republic, through the organization, Compassion International. Check out the video below to hear an update from the CI Dominican Republic Director! And don’t forget to pray for Leslie today! Click here. The Coopersville UMC is sponsoring a child through Compassion International.
Meet Leslie! She is 15 years old, from The Dominican Republic. Her birthday is May 7. Matthew 19:13-15 talks about Jesus's love for the little children. Jesus called us to love on the little children because only those that are like the children will be allowed into the kingdom of God. Our church has very recently chosen to sponsor a child through the mission organization Compassion International. Leslie Hernandez Pascual, lives in south of the Dominican Republic, in Monte Plata, in a house with her mother, step-father, and a sibling. That is 1,921 miles from Coopersville. Her household responsibilities include carrying water to the house, running errands, and cleaning. Leslie loves art, playing with dolls, and jumping rope. She also attends church and bible class. Our Mission & Outreach Committee has made a commitment of $38 per month from our missions fund to support her. This support will provide Leslie with money for school, food, and any medical care she may need. The biggest impact that sponsoring Leslie will have is that she now knows that there is a whole church in a completely different country that loves her and cares about her. As a church, we will have the privilege of exchanging letters with Leslie to learn more about her and to encourage her. We sent our first letter to her last week, which included a birthday card, and picture of our children wishing her “Feliz Cumpleaños” (Happy Birthday!). And we are anxiously awaiting a response. We would love to have members of the church write notes to her, send pictures of our church family and events, and continue to share Jesus’ love with her. If you’d like to submit something, email it to Office@CoopersvilleUMC.org, and we will send it to her. We will also include all updates and communications we receive and send here on this blog, so check back often! And please pray for Leslie, and her family! Coopersville UMC has been her sponsor since April 18, 2016 Birthday: Leslie was 15 on May 7, 2023 Location: La Luisa Blanca, Dominican Republic Guardians Name: Rosi Morel Grade Level US: 7th Planned School Completion Date: 5/2028 |
